Manifesto

Our name is adapt - Picture Theatre Collision.
We are an international group of artists, crossing art disciplines and cultures, from Germany, Japan, the USA, Israel, Chile, Switzerland and Denmark.
Our art disciplines are butoh dance, modern dance, experimental theatre, performance, acting, writing, multimedia, music and action theatre: "improvisational awareness training".
We have come together through the initiative of Shinichi Momo Koga (San Francisco) and Minako Seki (Berlin-Nagasaki). We believe to develop our own language in the process of learning and studying new currents in theatre and action art from our different cultures, and thus directly from each other.

Globalization

The worldwide market has been changing and the world has been globalized. We, a group of artists from different cultures, feel, that we are part of this globalization. The future of any form of art that is happening will have a cross cultural, globalized character.
What has brought us together, is the sensation of exile. Our work is founded on the circumstance that we are permanently being displaced, and therefore permanently have to be in movement, as the world is changing so fast that we also permanently have to change. Where we wish to be, we never are once we have reached that place.
We are strongly influenced by narrative structures. Our interest is to find out how we can support a "narrative sculpture" without dominating it or working against it.
Our work is based on images of time, space, movement, light, sound and music, which are all created from an emotional tissue or from a sensation that creates resonances.

Ke-hi

Our background in some respect holds a kind of mystery. It's the idea to create atmospheres - an idea originating in the Japanese expression Ke-Hi "What is behind us", an indication of our secret history.
Deserted buildings, empty rooms or places, that have actually lost their function, are our source of inspiration. In this emptiness we create the penetrating atmosphere of a "Gesamtkunstwerk" (an overall, all encompassing piece of art, German word) and qualities of being.

Site specific

We have gathered for a site-specific work that deals with the architectural environment. In this, our responsibility produces unnamed inner states of emotion that have a universal human quality.
We are thus trying to create a "Gesamtkunstwerk", that is resting between theatre, dance and installation.
It's us who will wake it up.
